Why This Reference Exists
Printed Champaign directories ended, but the records behind local research remain. Ownership is documented through the Champaign County Assessment Office and Clerk & Recorder. Voter information follows Illinois law. Historical volumes and finding aids are maintained by the Champaign County Historical Archives and state repositories. We organize the official search tools, office contacts, known coverage, and access rules so readers can reach the correct custodian with less guesswork.
What Is Available Here
- Pages by angle: the street directory (address-keyed records), the city directory (the historical shelf), and the resident lookup (one-person searches)
- The rolls and offices: assessor, recorder, elections office, court clerk, vital records, the library's local history collection
- Walkthroughs: how to trace who lives on a street, how to read a directory entry, how to follow a household across the decades
- Access rules: what Illinois law opens, what stays restricted, and how to make a focused records request
What We Are Unable to Do
This is a privately run reference site. It is not connected with the City of Champaign, Champaign County, Illinois, any court, or any library. These limits apply:
- We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Champaign
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail here is current at this moment
Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
